Wilson High School Athletic Association, Inc.
The Wilson High School Athletic Association, Inc., a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization that was founded in April 2008 by Clayton Brown, Willie McDaniels and George R. White. The core principal guiding the founding was to honor all student-athletes who participated in sports throughout the history of Wilson High School. After beginning operations and doing research, the founders determined that a far greater need existed. Therefore, the purpose and goals were changed to reflect the purchase of 10 acres of land and the building of a four-wing structure (youth wing, sports hall of fame, convention-style hall, and sports restaurant) to service the needs of the community.
To date, the organization has sponsored the following activities:
1) The first annual Evening of Elegance and Hall of Fame Inductions, a black-tie affair, held at the Oakdale Country Club in February 2009, where the first and second state championship football teams (1949 and 1953, both undefeated champions) were honored. In addition to our first inductee, Mr. Andrew Huggins (athlete, teacher, principal, coach, and official), the affair was attended by 210 persons.
2) The second annual Evening of Elegance and Hall of Fame Induction, a black-tie affair, was held in February 2010 at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College. The organization honored female and male athletes covering the periods of 1942 through 1956. We also honored the 1966 State Championship Baseball Team members.This affair was attended by 420 persons.
3) On August 27, 2010, the organization sponsored a concert and honored our own Mr. Houston Person in an event entitled An Evening with Houston Person. Mr. Person was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. This event, MC-ed by Bhakti Larry Hough of WLGI-FM of Hemingway, was a huge artistic success. Based on requests and demands, other jazz offerings are in the planning stage.

To purchase land for the construction of a multi-purpose community complex to honor those who have participated in sports at Wilson High School, historically. The complex will include: 1) Youth Wing, 2) Sports Hall of Fame, 3) Sports Restaurant, and 4) Ballroom/Auditorium with meeting rooms and convention capabilities.
Board of Directors and Members
Meeting will be held the third Saturday of each month at 12 noon.
Fundraisers will be announced.
We plan to fund this venture via grants, fundraisers, corporate donations and private contributions. A timeline for goals will be established by the board of directors and communicated to members and the communities.
